Featured Artist of the Month:
Painter Erica Rosa, age 36, has been married for nine years.
"My husband and I have a blended family, with our kids ranging in age from fifteen to two years old. I homeschool all of them, so people often ask me, 'How do you have time to paint with all those kids?' I always respond, 'How could I NOT paint with all these kids!'
"Painting is how I recharge; it’s what I do because I feel like God has given me this gift for a reason, and I try to honor Him in my art. My husband was a Marine for twelve years and now is in the reserves. He has been deployed four times in our marriage, and painting was my refuge during those times especially. He is also the Children’s Ministries Director at our church, so I spend a lot of time pouring into the kids at our church with him.
"I want people to understand and see that creativity is an amazing part of life. I paint in acrylics on canvas, wood, cement, or anything I can get my hands on. I have a passion for large indoor/outdoor murals, and produced a 40-by-16-foot mural in Jocotenago, Guatemala, and another large outdoor mural in Antigua, Guatemala. I enjoy having people in the community help me paint outdoor murals and participate in filling in colors. One of my works in progress is at the Shortway Brewery in Newport, NC, which is my largest project yet. It includes three large outdoor courtyard walls and the whole community helped take part in the painting."
